August 1990 – He attempted to rape a 17-year-old girl walking home from a bus stop.

December 1990: Kidnapping and attempted rape of a teenage hitchhiker.

1991 – Pleaded guilty to both offenses and was sentenced to five years in prison, with a minimum of three years.

April 1993 – released from prison after 22 months in prison.

September 2000 – first of five rapes against five women working as prostitutes in Melbourne’s St Kilda red light district.

April 2002 – 11 years in prison, including at least eight years after pleading guilty to rape.

2009 – Completed the sex offender program before being released on parole in 2010.

August 12, 2011 – Kingkiller in Geelong. He pleaded guilty to assault and was released on bail pending an appeal against the verdict.

September 22, 2012 – While on parole, he raped and murdered Jill Meagher as she walked home.

June 19, 2013 – Life sentence, including a minimum of 35 years for the murder of Jill Meagher and a further 15 years for the rape.

March 26, 2014 – Adrian Bayley is found guilty of raping three more women, including two St Kilda prostitutes and a Dutch backpacker, just two months before he raped and murdered Jill Meagher.

Suppression orders were issued for coverage of all three individual trials to ensure Bayley received a fair hearing. The restrictions were lifted on the morning of March 26, allowing the media to expose his evil crimes.

Jill Meagher story

1990 – Jill moved to Australia for the first time with her family from Drogheda, Ireland to take over her father’s job. She later returned to Ireland with the family.

1991 – She attended St Oliver’s and Drogheda Grammar School.

2001 – Jill meets Tom on her first day at University College, Dublin.

2008 – Jill McKeon married Tom Meagher in Ireland in 2008.

2009 – Tom and Jill moved to Melbourne.

Timeline of crossing paths

September 23 – Jill Meagher’s disappearance is treated as a missing persons case. The police are issuing a public appeal for information.

September 24 – Homicide detectives take over the case after Jill’s purse is found.

September 25 – Forensic officers search Meagher’s home and release CCTV footage of Jill talking to a man in a blue hoodie.

September 27th – Bayley is arrested in Coburg.

September 28 – Jill Meagher’s body is found. Bayley was taken into custody and charged with murder.

March 12, 2013 – Adrian Bayley pleads not guilty to two of three counts of murder and rape.

April 5 – Adrian Bayley changes his plea to guilty.

June 19th – Sentence day for Adrian Bayley with sentence announced by the Supreme Court judge.
