Man shot dead after aggressive driving in southeast Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – A man was shot and killed in southeast Indianapolis Tuesday night after a road rage incident turned deadly.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to Thompson Road and Emerson Avenue around 8:22 p.m. after receiving reports that a person had been injured in a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious man lying in the street with gunshot wounds, according to IMPD. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in “very” critical condition, according to IMPD.

The IMPD confirmed the victim’s death around 10:30 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators that the shooting appeared to be the result of an earlier road rage incident involving a black Honda and a white Chevy pickup truck, according to IMPD. The witnesses added that the driver of the pickup truck appeared to be the one who opened fire.

No further injuries were reported.

IMPD confirmed that the driver of the pickup truck is still on scene and cooperating with investigators.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Detectives are trying to obtain surveillance footage that may show the moments leading up to the shooting.

IMPD confirmed that a person was arrested at the scene as police continue to investigate, but it remains unclear what role, if any, that person may have played in the fatal shooting.
