Heslin, who starred in Paramount’s lioness and Lifetime’s The holiday proposal planwas hospitalized for a week because of a heart problem, his husband, Scotty Dynamo (real name Nicolas James Wilson), shared via social media.

“On July 2nd my husband, best friend and soulmate @mikeheslin passed away from an unexpected heart attack after a week-long battle in the hospital. Michael was young, in excellent health and doctors have no explanation for what happened,” Dynamo wrote on Instagram on Friday, July 5.

Heslin is survived by his husband, his parents John and Geriann, and his siblings Andrew, Timothy and Anna. Heslin was predeceased by his brother Robert, who also died unexpectedly in March 2023 at the age of 30.

Dynamo continued his tribute to his late husband: “Michael was brilliant, selfless, talented and a true guardian angel. He single-handedly carried me through multiple stages of cancer. He was the first person everyone called to share good news and he was the perfect go-to person when someone needed a shoulder to lean on or the best advice. He was truly the sweetest, most caring and loving person on earth and he brought out the absolute best in everyone who crossed his path.”

Dynamo was at his side as Heslin passed.

“Michael, meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me. You are my world. You are everything to me. When I felt your last breath, my heart shattered into a million pieces,” he continued. “If I had the power to trade places with you, I would in a heartbeat. But I’m going to take it day by day, like you always told me, and live each day to your honor.”

The couple married in November 2023 and planned to start a family together, according to Dynamo’s obituary.

“Just a week ago, we were in the early stages of starting a family and regularly exchanged our favorite names for our future children,” he wrote. “You always told me that you felt you were destined to be a father and I couldn’t agree more. You would be the most perfect father in the world. If I ever become a father, I will name my son after you and hope that I manage to raise him to be at least half as good a man as you.”

“You have been the most generous and giving person,” Dynamo said. “It gives me comfort to know that through your desire to be a donor, you have given the gift of life to four different families. There are still three weeks until your birthday and four months until our first wedding anniversary, but I know you are in a better place and that heaven has gained another angel.”

He concluded by saying: “Michael, in the words of Shania Twain: I will love you ‘forever and ever.'”

Orange is the new black alum Kimiko Glenn was a lifelong friend of Heslin and also paid tribute to him via social media.

“At your wedding I said you were perfect and that was true until the very end. You always did the right thing, you were constantly thinking of others. I was never mad at you – how is that even possible??” she captioned several photos of herself with Heslin on Instagram. “I actually don’t know how to imagine my life without you. We drifted side by side for 25 years. From doing children’s theater together, to unexpected high school hookups, then college, roommates in New York, to moving across the country and meeting on the couch whenever we felt like it. Countless memories. It makes no sense that I can no longer send you the longest video messages in the world and get that detailed, thorough response.”

Glenn also revealed that Heslin has chosen to become an organ donor. “The only thing that makes your death more bearable is that you saved four other lives as a donor,” Glenn said. It gives me peace to know that through your death you were able to give the gift of life to others. The most compassionate, generous, and kindest person ever. My best friend, my angel. I love you forever, Michael. Thank you for being a friend. ❤️.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help Dynamo cover the costs of Heslin’s unexpected hospitalization and funeral. “His family suffered a tremendous loss this past year following the passing of Mike’s brother and with the medical costs and the cost of another service, they could really use a helping hand financially,” Glenn wrote in an Instagram story. The fundraiser raised nearly $50,000 in three days.
