Suspect arrested after break-in at Homestead warehouse – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

HOMESTEAD, FLA. (WSVN) – A break-in at Smart Stop Storage in Homestead led to the arrest of a suspect after a dramatic escape attempt.

In the incident, which occurred on July 3 and 4, $20,000 worth of branded sneakers were stolen from a storage unit.

Homestead Police officers first responded to a burglary report at Smart Stop Storage, 1235 NE 12th Ave., on July 3. The next day, officers were dispatched to the same location when the suspect arrived at the scene again. When they arrived, officers heard noises coming from inside a storage unit.

An officer climbed into a car and arrested the suspect, Tyvarius Tygwyan Straoudmattison, inside the apartment. Rather than surrender, Straoudmattison attempted to escape by climbing through the roof and running across the ceilings of neighboring apartments, only to fall through one of them. Officers arrested him without further incident.

Smart Stop Storage staff confirmed that Straoudmattison rented a unit at the facility and used his passcode to gain entry. At the scene, two other victims reported that their units had also been broken into.

Straoudmattison now faces several charges, including burglary of an unoccupied building, grand theft and resisting an officer without the use of violence.
