Three people arrested for car theft in Clayton

CLAYTON, Missouri – Police have arrested three people for involvement in thefts from unlocked vehicles.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Tuesday night in the Clayshire neighborhood near Clayton Road and S. Brentwood Boulevard. A resident reported the suspicious activity to police.

When the suspects saw the police arriving, they fled the scene on foot, but were caught after a short chase.

According to police, the suspects’ vehicle had been stolen in the Clayshire neighborhood prior to the incident. In addition, other stolen property belonging to both St. Louis and Clayton residents was found.

“We commend the resident who immediately called 911 when he noticed criminal activity. By not intervening, he avoided putting himself in unnecessary danger. His smart decisions also allowed our officers to effectively handle the situation,” Clayton police said.

Officials say car thefts in Clayton have dropped 39% compared to the same period last year, but the problem remains a concern. They recommend bringing valuables indoors and making sure keys are removed from vehicles.
