Three police officers suspended after two family members committed suicide

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Three policemen have been suspended after two members of a family of four died in a suicide attempt on Sunday and Monday. The suspended officers are Police Inspector PP Santosh, Assistant Sub-Inspector and Superintendent of Police Raghavendra.

Further, SP Nandini issued the suspension orders as the police officials had not registered a case under the S/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, POCSO Act and Section 370 of the IPC on the complaint of the minor victim.

The parents of the minor victim had filed a complaint with KR Nagar police that a youth from a neighbouring village was blackmailing them after taking private photographs and videos of them. Unsure of getting justice, they decided to end her life.

The victim’s grandparents and her mother had gone to Male Mahadeshwara Hills and on the way back they had taken poison at Talabetta. The grandfather Mahadev Nayak died on Sunday while the victim’s mother Leelavathi died on Monday at CIMS Hospital without responding to treatment. The condition of the other two is said to be critical and they were being treated in the ICU.
