Officials say a 3-year-old kidnapped in Nevada County was found unharmed in a steep ravine

NEVADA COUNTY – A 3-year-old boy who the CHP said was abducted in Nevada County on Friday was found unharmed in a steep river gorge, the sheriff’s office said.

The California Highway Patrol – Alerts said the sheriff’s office is searching for 30-year-old Siera Salitrero after the 3-year-old was abducted from an incorporated area in Nevada County around 11:30 a.m. Friday. An Amber Alert was issued around 6 p.m.

The sheriff’s office said Salitrero is a suspect in an attack that occurred on N. Bloomfield Road near Grizzly Hill Road. This was near the South Yuba Campground, northeast of Nevada City.

At around 8:45 p.m., the sheriff’s office said the child and suspect were found alive in a steep river ravine. They were found by volunteer search and rescue workers when they heard noises and cries for help.

GPS coordinates were transmitted and CalOES was able to locate her using the FIRIS aircraft. The CHP helicopter responded and flew the child out of the canyon unharmed.

At the time of last report, Salitrero was being pulled out of the ravine with a rope, the sheriff’s office said. She is “physically fine.”

It is still unknown what their relationship is to each other.

The MPs added that it had been reported that Salitrero had threatened to harm himself.

The sheriff’s office said 13 deputies and 35 search and rescue volunteers were working to locate the suspect and victim.
