Correctional officer arrested for possible inappropriate relationship

STANTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Powell County Detention Center became aware of the possibility of an inappropriate relationship between a PCDC correctional officer and an inmate. They say the facility, with the assistance of the Stanton Police Department and the 39th Judicial District Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, launched a comprehensive investigation into Correctional Officer Christine Spencer.

They say they found enough evidence in the investigation and that the Stanton Police Department has charged Spencer, who was taken into custody by prison guard Teddy Lacy. The officer was then taken to the Clark County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing. Lacy posted the following statement on the Powell County Detention Center Facebook page:

“I want it to be known that the public does not have to worry about putting their trust in this institution. Our institution takes our responsibilities to the law, the State of Kentucky and the citizens of Powell County very seriously, both inside and outside our walls. If any of my deputies do anything like this, I will personally handcuff them and transport them to another facility.”
