Heat warning for Kansas City: Extreme temperatures until Thursday

August will arrive in the Kansas City metropolitan area later this week. The new month will start brutally, with extreme and dangerous temperatures beginning Monday and continuing through Thursday. A heat advisory is in effect throughout the metropolitan area during this period. Temperatures will be just below 100 degrees for most of the upcoming work week, with humidity pushing the heat index well above 100 degrees. The heat index will reach 115 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. The heat will slowly subside on Friday and through the weekend. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks and stay hydrated. Avoid too much sunshine and postpone outdoor activities and play. While no severe or significant events are expected, there is a chance of thunderstorms and rain over the next few days. Overall, though, it will remain largely dry. Both Missouri and Kansas have resources to help you find a cooling center if you’re stuck in the heat. Call 311 in Missouri and 211 in Kansas. If you or someone you know has an emergency, call 911.
