Deadly shooting at Northeast Philadelphia store – NBC10 Philadelphia

A clerk was found shot to death early Thursday surrounded by cash stolen from the cash register at a Northeast Philadelphia store in what police said was a likely robbery.

A woman flagged down a Philadelphia police officer around 12:30 a.m. on July 11, 2024, to report that a man had been shot at the Frankford Convenience Store on Pratt Street, near Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

“The officer immediately went to the location, entered the store and found a man lying on the ground in the employee area of ​​the store,” Small said.

The unresponsive man – believed to be in his 30s – was bleeding from his shoulder and torso, Small said.

That officer, along with several other officers, took the man to a nearby hospital, but it was too late, Small said. The man died a short time later.

When police investigated the crime scene, they found the open cash register and several banknotes near where the worker was found.

It seems possible that “it could have been a robbery that escalated into a murder,” Small said.

Investigators found evidence that at least five shots were fired in the store, Small said.

Police planned to use surveillance video from inside and outside the store in their search for the killer.

As of Thursday, there have been at least 135 murders in Philadelphia this year, according to police data. That’s 41% fewer than last year and the lowest homicide count since 2016.
