LUBBOCK, Texas – Monday, May 6, marks the anniversary of the fatal crash in West Lubbock that killed 21-year-old Melodi Boivin, her husband Xavier Caballero, 23, and their two children, 2-year-old Marcellus came, for the first time, and one-year-old Lezlie along with Melodi’s unborn child.

Melodi’s mother, Jennifer Lynn Boivin, told EverythingLubbock.com that it still hurts just as much as it did a year ago when she remembered the beautiful person her daughter was.

“She (always) had the brightest smile, even when she was having a bad day,” Jennifer said. She also remembered her grandchildren, 2-year-old Marcellus and 1-year-old Lezlie.

“(Marcellus) would be running around. And he was into everything… he was into my makeup, my markers and he just wanted to draw everything,” Jennifer said. Lezlie hid under the kitchen table. And she would play with things. And (Marcellus) would go ahead and try to get them off the table.”

Jennifer said her son-in-law Xavier was “pretty gentle” and loved superheroes. She said he wore a Spider-Man costume when the last film was released, which Melodi didn’t like.

“He wore a Spider-Man costume to the movie theater and my daughter was as angry as if he was a grown man in a Spider-Man costume,” Jennifer said.

Jennifer explained that reliving these moments helps keep the memory alive and eases the grief. She said Melodi and Xavier were soulmates and great parents to Lezlie and Marcellus.

“They were soulmates because they met in high school…they broke up…but they got back together and became a family,” Jennifer said. “They were everything to us.”

An accident report obtained by EverythingLubbock.com a few days after the tragedy revealed that officers found an empty bottle of Patron and a partial case of Modelo in Wallace’s SUV. According to the report, Wallace was at the Office Bar and Grill before the crash.

The Boivin and Caballero families filed a joint lawsuit against The Office, claiming the legal profession overestimated Wallace to the point that he posed “a clear danger to himself and others.” Just 11 months later, the Office Bar was closed “due to violent incidents on the premises”. However, the lawsuit was eventually dropped.

Jennifer still wants the office to be held accountable for the role she says she played in the fatal accident that killed the couple’s grandchildren, daughter, son-in-law and unborn child.

“(It) wasn’t closed because of what happened to my family; “It was closed because of other incidents that happened there,” Jennifer said. “It’s not fair. It’s not fair at all that there is no justice here.”
