Four people injured in an accident involving a Santa Cruz Metro bus on Highway 17

short version

Four people were injured in the accident on Friday during rush hour, including the bus driver. The cause of the accident is still being investigated, according to a Santa Cruz Metro spokesman.

A Santa Cruz Metro bus was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 17 on Friday morning, injuring four people.

At about 7:15 a.m., one of Metro’s Highway 17 express buses crashed on northbound Highway 17 near Los Gatos, Metro spokeswoman Danielle Glagola said. Of the 10 passengers and one driver on board, four were injured, including the driver. They were taken to a hospital near San Jose. Glagola said she did not know their condition, but the injuries “appear to be minor.”

The other seven bus passengers remained on site and were picked up by another Metro bus to continue their journey to Diridon Station in San Jose.

Glagola said the cause of the accident is still unknown and the California Highway Patrol is currently investigating. The CHP did not respond to a request for comment on the accident.

A Mercury News report said the bus got stuck in a traffic jam on its way to San Jose and was unable to stop in time, causing it to collide with six other vehicles. It also said the bus was towed and the remaining passengers were picked up at 11:26 a.m.
