Residents of Daniel receive death threats in connection with wolf incidents

DANIEL, Wyoming – A motorcycle rally to protest the alleged torture and killing of a wolf in Daniel was peaceful on Saturday, May 25, even as residents continue to receive an alarming number of death threats.

According to Sergeant Travis Bingham of the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, the nationwide outrage has resulted in death threats against members of the local Daniel community who have nothing to do with the wolf incident. Bingham said people from across the country are searching for local residents, trying to find or establish a connection to the wolf incident, and sending them death threats. Bingham said: Buckrail that among the recent threats was one against a minor and a musician who performed only once at the Green River Bar in Daniel.

During the motorcycle rally on Saturday, the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to ensure public safety.

“We were there to keep the peace and keep traffic moving,” Bingham said.

According to Bingham, the Hogs for Hope caravan arrived shortly after 11 a.m., gathered to give a speech, exchanged money for animal welfare groups, and headed north toward Jackson. There was no conflict, other than an exchange of heated words. Hogs for Hope was a rally and fundraiser organized in response to the Daniel the wolf incident.

Daniel is known as a small, quiet cattle and horse ranching community with a population of about 210. The sheriff’s office condemns individuals who threaten violence in retaliation against members of the local community.

The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the wolf trap incident and all death threats received daily.

“Threats of violence … endanger the lives and peace of Sublette County residents, state and county employees, and innocent people outside of Sublette County who are not involved in the situation at all,” Bingham said Buckrail.
