Air quality warning for two days in Tri-State

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – An air quality warning has been issued in the Tri-State for two days.

The Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency issued an air quality warning that began at noon Sunday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday.

The warning affected Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties in Ohio. Warnings were also issued for Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties in Kentucky.

An air quality warning has also been issued for Dearborn County, Indiana.

The agency expected ozone levels on the air quality index (AQI) to be in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” range.

Alert Hamilton County said the public can help reduce ozone formation by taking the following actions:

  • Take the bus, carpool, bike or walk instead of driving.
  • If you refuel your vehicle after 8 p.m., do not refill the tank and tighten the tank cap tightly.
  • Do not let your vehicle idle, as exhaust gases contribute significantly to ozone formation.
  • Combine trips or avoid unnecessary car journeys.
  • Keep your vehicle in good condition with properly inflated tires and timely oil changes.
  • Avoid using gasoline-powered lawn equipment on days when there is an air quality alert.
  • Avoid using oil-based paints and stains on days when there is an air quality alert.
  • Never burn leaves or other garden waste.
  • On days with an air quality warning, fire pits, campfires and charcoal grills may not be used.
  • Save electricity by turning off lights and unplugging unused appliances and electronics.
