Metropolitan Police officer accused of rape pleads not guilty

A Metropolitan Police officer has pleaded not guilty to raping a woman in an incident over two years ago.

PC Sam McGregor, 31, was first arrested in June 2021 following allegations the previous month that he had sex without consent.

The officer, who is part of the Metropolitan Police’s Central North Command Unit, was charged with rape in May following a two-year investigation and appeared before the magistrates’ court last month.

At Inner London Crown Court on Friday, McGregor pleaded not guilty to the charges of rape and the alternative charge of sexual assault.

Judge Benedict Kelleher released him on bail pending trial, which is due to begin on April 22 next year.

Scotland Yard said the alleged victim was “known” to McGregor and the incident is believed to have occurred between May 11 and 12, 2021.

Further details of the crimes he is accused of were not given during the trial.

McGregor, who lives in Alice Close, Barnet, was arrested in June 2021, a day after he was first accused of rape. Police said he is currently suspended from duty.

The PC donned a black hat and a large black face mask as he left the courthouse in central London.
