Darwen man bit and strangled woman he raped on Blackburn estate

A rapist who bit and strangled a woman while raping her in Blackburn has been jailed. Police said the victim was “understandably very scared” of Lee Barr but showed “incredible courage and strength” by reporting his crime.

Officers listened to her, believed her and secured charges against the 27-year-old. Last week he appeared at Preston Crown Court, where a jury unanimously found him guilty of rape and sexual assault.

Barr, who is now of no fixed address but previously lived at Tythebarn Street in Darwen, was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life. He was remanded in custody to be sentenced at the same court on August 16.

Police shared details of the case on social media, featuring a photo of Lee Barr with the words: “This is 27-year-old Lee Barr and he is a rapist.”

The post continues: “If you or someone you know has been the victim of a sexual crime, report it online or call 101. If a crime is being committed, always call 999.”
