Residents concerned after finding dead dogs in trash in Allegheny County – WPXI

WILKINSBURG, Pennsylvania – Neighbors in Wilkinsburg and the city of Pittsburgh are concerned after finding two dead dogs in trash in their neighborhood this year.

A man who wished to remain anonymous made the latest disturbing discovery on his way to work on Friday morning, July 5.

“It was like it had been wrapped in a bag, it looked suspicious,” the man said. “It was just covered up, like someone was in a hurry or trying to cover it up. There were flies everywhere.”

He said he was driving an Uber down Fahnestock Way in Wilkinsburg when he noticed the many flies surrounding a garbage bag that had been dumped in the alley.

“It caught my eye immediately,” he said. “I looked out and it was sitting in this area. It was crazy. It looked so much like a body. That’s how worried I was.”

He quickly called his mother, who realized it was a dead dog.

“It smelled of decay, a lot of decay, and the whole street stank,” said his mother, who also wishes to remain anonymous. “I was in shock.”

This is not the first pit bull found among garbage in this area.

A few months earlier, the family had found another pit bull just down the street on Maplewood Avenue in Pittsburgh’s East Hills neighborhood.

The mother said her other son discovered a dead dog in a garbage bag on the back of his garbage truck while at work. He took a photo of it and informed his superiors.

“Someone threw another dog into the back of their truck while they were picking up trash on the street,” the mother said. “There are constant problems with illegal dumping in this area.”

She believes the two gruesome discoveries are related.

“There are people here who have dogs. They let them fight, and when the dogs lose, they kill them and throw them away as garbage,” the woman said.

Channel 11 News contacted the City of Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg Police Departments. The Wilkinsburg Fire Department lieutenant told us he is investigating what happened in the alley.
